Default Noise issue with my 2009 FLHX

Shortly after my 1,000 mile service, i started hearing a ticking sound from the top of the rocker. Now that I have over 4,000 miles on her the noise seems to be getting louder and only when the motorcycle hits 2500 rpms. The noise goes away at around 2800 rpms but the noise bothers me. I went to my servicing dealer to inquire about the noise and the setup tech commented that the touring models for 2009 seems to have the same issue. Its that true for other 2009 touring riders? I wanted the servicing dealer to take the top end off to see if there is an issue but if there isn't, then i have to pay for the labor and parts. i am getting discouraged to the point that i may trade my 09 FLHX for a 2010 FLSTC. Any thoughts or suggestions??

Mine does it. It raps pretty good at 3k and then stops shortly after that. It has always done that. 13k on it and no issues. Some say the noise gets worse with synthetic oil over dino oil. I haven't switched it out to see myself but if it appeared right after the service you may want to see what they put in there. Just a suggestion.

90 wt. gear oil will probably quiet it down some, it worked on my Hodaka back in the day...
Seriously though my SG never made any noise untill I installed cams and even then it's not bad.

Mine sounds like a sewing machine and I feel that synthetic has made it worse.I guess I gotta get some slip-ons.

They must've done something, or adjusted something at your 1 K check. Seems that there have been some posts on here somewhere about just this issue.......

Thanks for the replies, I had the put the syn3 blended oil in at 1,000 miles. I will probably go to the regular oil or try Mobil 1. Now at least I feel a little more comfortable knowing others have the same noise. Thanks again...
