Default Bars on RK are horrendous

2000 RK, the arm stretch and leaned over position is killing my neck. I'm 5'11 to 6"0 so I'm not a tiny guy.

After searching this board it looks like the cheap alternative is to try heritage softail bars which I plan to to over the weekend.

Will I need anything other than the bars? Longer cables, etc?

Not sure to this specific application, but yes you will most likely need new cables and extensions for the wires. A lot of folks go to beach bars etc on the RK.

They are the heritage style bars. May or may not be the exact same as the ones on a heritage. For the year you have, I believe the bars are cheap. When I tried them, it was $80 for the ones cut for throttle by wire and $50 for the other years. You don't need to replace any other cables or wires. They do help as a cheap alternative.

I agree completely, the Stock Road King bars are awful. I first installed Heritage bars which do not require a change in cables or wiring for the low cost. However after a few hundred miles I was still not satisfied. I installed 12 1/2" Wild ones on my 08 and when the wife insisted on a new bike I installed 14" Wild Ones on the 2010. The 14" are near perfect and I like you am 5'11. Yes the bars are more expensive and they do require extending the wiring as well as new cables however they are well worth the time and $$$.

I am running the Heritage bars and am also 6' tall with average to long arm length. No need for cables or lines. I do tilt them back just a bit for comfort. But I also have a Corbin seat that is putting me further back on the bike.

Much better hand position then the stock bars. Less stress on the wrists.

Just put Heritage bars on my '07 RKC. Easy to do and didn't need anything special..Remove the existing wire clips carefully, they can be reused.

The Screamin' Eagle catalog has a section with handlebars and any cable changes needed for your application. The parts person at the dealership can help you also.
