I went with the MT front and the MT rear on my '99egc about 1400 miles ago, (earlier this Spring) and so far I'm very pleased. Many have stated that the MU will fit on the rear, but I didn't see the need.

 

I don't use Dunlops so can't help you there. I use Avon Venoms and have used a rear MU/140 in my 1990 bike. It gets fairly close to the belt and I removed the rubber curtain to stop rubbing. I had 3/16" clearance between belt and tyre. The MT on the rear is close to its load limit, so an MU is worth fitting if you ride 2-up a lot.

I now have a later narrow belt and MU/150.

 

I am on my second rear(first one 14,000+ miles)and the front now has close to 18,000 on it and shows no wear or cupping. It does make a roaring noise on certain kinds of payment, but after 70 mph the wind cancels it out. I have ridden in rain storms and wind storms, over tar snakes(arkansas ones are 1/2 in higher than the payment and 3 or 4 inches wide)steel grating and have never had a handling, wobble or anything except great handling out of the E-3's. Won't run anything else.

I'm one of the first to go with the E3's and posted good reports initially. I've got about 7600 miles on the tires and I, too, have noticed some hum/whine from the front tire -- it goes away on cornering. I've also noticed some feathering of tread on rear tires, but that is probably due to riding more on the straights versus carving up the curves here in Texas. I also do a lot of 2-up riding and, despite what I have heard and expected, doubt I am going to get to 10k miles on the rear.

I recently rode 2-up from Houston to N/W Arkansas and drove through the monsoon that took the lives of about 19 people last weekend with all the flooding. We were in torrential rains for 2 1/2 hours, and the bike -- and tires -- handled flawlessly! There were times when I thought I was riding a waverunner, but the bike behaved itself and the tires carved through everything that was thrown at us. I don't recall ever feeling like it was going to scoot out from under me. So, having said all that, I am going with the E3 again.

Oh, and I went with as wide a back tire as possible: 160/80. It required a trimming of the belt guard, but I like the ride, look and performance of the wider tire.

Went with E-3 on front i like it rides great snakes and road cracks no problem now.

 

All I can say is I now have over 3k on my E3s and all is well. I also put the 160/80 on the rear and had NO issues what so ever! If I can get 12-16k out of the rear I will be very, very happy.

Oh and IMO, they handle very well in all weather that I have ridden in.

I also have a '99. The MU fit fine and has a higher load rating.

Great rain tire. Minor hum around 50 mph. Great wear and fantastic handling.

 

My rear E3 was too badly cupped at 14K to continue with. The front was irritatingly noisy between 50-60 MPH on asphalt. I was suprised at the amount of wear the front had sustained when I pulled them this spring. Went with Metzler ME880's. So far (1500 miles) they are eveything the E3's were, also quieter. I have laced wheels and they aren't made to run radials, BTW. Unless your bike came stock with radials, you are likely going to use bias ply tires.

 

I put E3's on last year and they've been great. I have not heard any weird noises.

They handle great and the longevity is much better than the stock tires.
