I am going to keep an eye out for good deals on used FLHRP models for Lu - that would be the perfect "blank canvas" for him to start his dream build...
My brother has an 07 and an 08 FLHP for sale at Great Lakes Harley.

How much power do you REALLY need? Is down shifting to 4th to pass or climb really a bad thing? My wife and I go 300-350 (she won't tell me what she really weighs) and my 88 handles it just fine. Its not stock...and I never want for more power.

Hell, I've never driven a car or truck that didnt require downshifts at some point. Shifting is fun anyways.
the Wings engine is deliberately built to moderate power level. It's minimum projected lifespan is 300,000 miles - with many going longer without ever touching the engine, the torque curve is as flat as you can get, and it runs on regular. It's possible to get a Harley to make lots of power and to outrun a wing if you have enough money, but at the expense of durability and driveability. I don't know why anyone wants to mess up a perfectly good HD engine to make it do what is isn't designed to - especially in a touring bike.

Go find and older EVO bagger, spend a little and fix it up and drop a 125 CI Revtech in it. Power to beat he!!. I weigh 230 with my 100 lb wife on the back I can pull away in 6th gear (revtech) easily. Roll on the throttle at 60 no prob, 70 no prob, 80 no prob. even at 100 it will still pull away. And still pull in 30-35 MPG when riding easy.

I'd say a least a 113 will give you good torque and power your looking for. Whether it be from HQ or Hillside, Tman, gmr. You can call anyone of the and tell them what your wanting and they will compose a set-up for what you are looking for from mild to wild. But I'd go with at least a 113 or bigger for you. I have the HQ107ST I just installed last week and it runs very well for me. It depends on how fts you want to get to 90mph when passing. I weigh about 165. The HQ 107 is getting around 115tq 115hp. Good luck.
