Default Passing lamp upgrade to 55watt help

Hi, have asked this question on the Oz forum and hoped it was ok to ask here as well. I cant find anywhere in Oz where I can buy the 55w halogen globes to suit the OEM lamp holders with the PJ13 base and 90 degree bend. Was looking at the harley parts manual and rang the dealer regarding lamp holder part #68208-98A item 2(page 633) of accessory book. They said the globes in this one are H3's with the pigtail, easier to buy, but you have to slice the rubber boot open to access them as the boot is welded to the back of the lense. Anyone got any ideas or bought the H3 lamp holders and changed the globes to 55 watt. Will it be ok to slice the rubber boot, did you have fogging issues? Would prefer just to replace the globes to 55w but it appears that I'm not able too with the info I'm getting down here. The bike is an 09 ultra classic, Thanks for any help.

I did it, works great. And you have more options with the H-3's

Thanks mate. Glad to hear as I'm seriously looking at the different lenses. Just about every auto shop here has the H3 globes, but the OEM ones are a different story.

Also, Dennis Kirk and JP have a good selection of original type bulbs.

I bought the h3 on advise from someone hear and ended
up throwing them away. The pig tail only has a power wire
so there's no way to ground it. For reliablity I refuse to solder
or otherwise add a makshift ground. I have a 09 ultra so maybe
it would work on some older models

I you're referring to the passing lights on a 2009 I use a 881 bulb it's a direct replacement although these are yellow you can get other colors.

I can see how you don't want to make any changes. Thought the same when converting mine. But on the other hand it was only a couple snips of wire each side, and some crimps and all was done. And if it was butchered up for me in the future I could always make a new wiring harness.

Some times if you want a mod you have to do these things.

Have since been looking at true HID's for passing lamps. Not using the crummy HD reflectors either. That is what I think causes most the glare when using higher wattage bulbs. No distinct beam pattern since HD uses only a 35 watt bulb to start with.

Thats interesting. I never thought of that, so I'll go some of the better wattage replacement bulbs and order them from USA. Eventually I will put a HID kit in there.

the 881 is also called H11 by some companies. Look here http://www.bikerhiway.com/h11-110w-x...dc68df96397775

No, I think that's the headlight bulb and mounts differently than the 881,
