Preferred tires from my list

If you follow the threads here you will find that a lot of people like the Dunlop Elite 3. I just installed a set today with Dynabeads and took a 20 mile ride. The bike does not even notice grooves or cracks in the road anymore and the tires feel great. The E-3 is a much better riding tire than the stock Dunlops.
From what I have learned on this site as well as others my second choice would be Michelin.

I like the stock Dunlops; I don't ride it like a crotch rocket so I don't need softer compound Metzlers, I'd rather have the tire last longer. I don't have any issues with road grooves or handling either. They're also a little cheaper. I know a lot of people use the E3s but I don't think they technically have a rear that is rated for 2 up touring (although people use them with no issues).
I don't tow a trailer but I do ride 2 up most of the time.
Just my opinion, it's worth what you paid.

Interesting responses.
I am absolutely [I]sold[I] on the Michelin Commanders. They have provided me excellent wear [18,000 miles on the rear, front still going strong after 19,000+]. The "wobble" I experienced with the stock Dunlops is gone. Even in the turns. I had considered going to a stabilizer or even getting an 09 or later, & that flat ended with the installation of the Michelins.
I really couldn't be happier when it comes to tires.
