V Rod Ultra

I came within an inch of buying a 2010 Road King.
Didn't like what I was reading about the engine heat and MoCo's fixes, rerouting pipe, single cylinder shut off, to a problem they denied existed to the owners of the previous years' models with the same problems.
So I just bought a new 09 VRSCDX and am bagging it. I put bags on it, also a tail bag, changed the handlebars, put center pegs on (leaving controls out front), have a Corbin touring seat and backrest on the way, getting a tool pouch, have a riser/bars pouch on. When winter hits, will get a windshield and maybe a fairing. HD sells engine guards for them, so you can put covers on there if you want.
Observations:
The HD luggage rack you can get for them don't hold much, 10 lbs, I think.
The bags I put on are a lot smaller than the tourers, and the stock pipes are in the way for serious bags. There are a lot of aftermarket pipes available that are not in the way.
The stock pipes are extremely quiet. No, really.
It is very, very fast.
You can feel the engine and road much more than the tourers. (I prefer, some won't)
The sucker is too low.
It drinks gasoline.
It drinks more gasoline when you put wind resistance on like bags (prelim check so far).
People stop, even in traffic, and stare at it, and comment on it (all positive so far) and want to know what it is.
Very happy with it so far. The engines are apparently bulletproof.

Ya'll know HDMOCO is working on a VROD dresser. As always it takes forever for them to change. They let the entrepreneurs do the R&D for them. The softail frame was on the market as a aftermarket frame before HD bought the rights for it. Another company was producing 5 speed gear kits for the 4 speed case long before HD came out with a 5 speed. And. They had to get Porsche to develop the VROD engine.
That pic looks a lot like what I would think the MOCO would come out with.

Okay, I have been working this vibration thing until I am blue in the face. Getting sick of the single cylinder shut down so engine doesn't fry itself on a 09 degree day. What a bunch of c&@p for a $20,000 plus machine. I am ready for Harley to put a Vrod motor in the Ultra, water cooled, more power, smoother, it would all be a good thing.

When you get stuck in traffic I don't care if you are on an air/oil cooled bike or liquid cooled bike, they both are going to be hot. You are basically sitting on top of an engine on a motorcycle.
My v-rod is actually hotter than my Road Glide in traffic when the v-rod fans come on.
Riding from Mukilteo/Everett Washington to Sturgis last year one rider was on a Yamaha sport touring and he was the most miserable by far from the heat coming off his radiator at speed. He was dumping water on his feet at every stop. The three of us riding twin cam motors were fine.

I like the air cooled engine, the single pin crankshaft that give that distinctive sound.
Personally, I'd have little desire to own a water cooled HD.
