Default HD O-Ring Shifter Peg

Ok, I've got a REALLY dumb question.

I just bought a Road King that has the Harley Davidson O-Ring Shifter Pegs on it (pictured below)

The REALLY dumb question I have is: how does one take this peg off? It seems to just screw onto the shifter arm, but it spins loosely on the bolt. I can't get to the bolt because there's a cover on the end. The cover doesn't seem to come off because it's so flush that I can't even get an Xacto knife under it to pry it off. Does anyone have any experience with these accursed pegs? Help...

That's what I thought too, but I swear you can't get a sheet of paper down in the crack, much less a screwdriver or anything strong enough to pry it off. There's no slots, holes, or anything to assist with this as well.

I'm flummoxed.[sm=WTFsgign.gif]

Did you try a wrench on the hex nut on the inside?
Other wise I agree that the cap must come off.

Take the shifter arm off the bike and if I am not mistaken there is a screwdriver end on the peg that you can get to through the threaded hole on the shifter arm. I had the HD o-ring pegs on my softail and that is how I changed it.

Good Luck.
