Default Does your EITMS come on when it is 66 degrees?

This morning I went for a ride and the EITMS came on every time I stopped. I usually don't have it turned on so I am not real familiar with it. My concern is that it is only 66 degrees out. I was going between 35 and 40 for about 20 minutes.

So my question is, is it normal to come on when it is this cool out or should I be concerned about the 4 day trip I am going on in the morning?

Mine did it until I switched to a richer PCV map. Before that, 15mn riding in the city with 3 or 4 red lights and the rear cylinder would shut off.
It never happened when riding at 35-40mph for 20mn though. Are you runnning stock air filter/pipes and ECM only?

Sorry, I suppose a little more info would help. I have the Fuel Moto package with dyno tuned mufflers, PCV with their map, and the SE air kit. I checked the oil and transmission fluid and both are fine but I did not check the primary.

I have my '10 SG and a buddy has an '09 RKC. When riding, his kicks on all the time, when mine rarely ever does. I mean we have to be in serious city traffic, or on a super hot day for mine to come on.

He has a PCV, and I have a TTS tuned by the same guy, and all our graphs are within 1-2 units of each other across the board.

Can't figure it out. I'm guessing it's a variance in the cylinder head temp sensors...

You're pretty close to what I have on mine. The difference being the slip-ons, and I also have an oil cooler (running Amsoil synthetic) My CFRs are 4" diameter but this shouldn't have any effect on head cylinder temp. What map # are you running?

As for the head temp sensor, the EITMS kicks-in at 285F so even if the sensor is slightly off, the temp must still be high for the rear cylinder to shut-off and when it happens on my bike, I can definitely feel the heat.

Try map M15-003-003, and see if it makes any difference. That would be a starting point. I ran it recently and it cooled my engine down. If it doesn't do anything for you, I'd take the bike to the dealer and have him check the head temp sensor.

I wouldn't change maps. Call Jamie and tell him what the problem is. If it's a map issue he'll send you another.

Mine is in disable mode. The rear cyl. would shut off on 85deg. day in same scenario before and after PCV and Auto Tune. The dealer mech. doesn`t think m uch of the rear cyl. cut out feature and I trust his judgement.

when my bike was stock it hardly ever came on except for when I was in slow traffic and stopping alot...now that I have a 103 it comes on alot more...I think you might be running a bit lean but I'm no expert...just my own experience

A friend of mine has a 2008 Road King. His has not been updated for the EITMS to turn OFF or ON by rolling the throttle forward. His EITMS is ON all the time. He was having the same issues, the EITMS would activate while stopped at a stop sign after riding at 40-50 mph for 25-30 mins. Even when the temps were in the 70's. He took it to dealer a couple of times. They told him it was his riding style causing it to heat up. <G> This guy has been riding motorcycles for over 30 years and has had HD's before.
Now here is the crazy part. He was about to take a trip on the Road King. So he changed the oil in the bike, he switched to Amsoil 20W/50 motorcycle oil. The oil that was in the bike was HD SE SynIII. Since he switched to the Amsoil, his EITMS has not engaged one time and it was been nearly a year since he switched to the Amsoil.
I just sent him the TSB about getting the EITMS updated so he can control the EITMS by the throttle. The dealer had told him they had never heard the early 08's could be updated. So he is going to carry them the TSB and show them it is from HD and it can be updated. <G>
