Hey skater69,

I have a 2000 FLHTPI (police issue electra glide), as well as 3 R1s (one is a 2004 R1 street bike, the other two are track only bikes, one a 2000, the other a 2004), and an '87 FZR1000. In comparison to the sport bikes, the EG is very susceptible to side winds, and pavement irregularities. The fork-mounted batwing fairing provides excellent wind/rain protection, and it is great to have your headlights track into a turn at night, but the bike does move around quite a bit compared to a sport bike. Nothing you can't get accustomed to, but since you are coming off a sport bike, I know you will feel it. I installed a RideStr8 3rd link on the EG, and this did improve, but certainly not eliminate, the handling quirks. In spite of all that, I am putting 5K miles/month on the harley, and the 04 R1 street bike is collecting dust in the garage. It is mint, and it is up for sale. I'll keep the track bikes and the Hog for the street.

I've been riding the EG Standard for 3 months and love it. I have had a 30 MPH crosswind while doing 75 and felt some push. My buddy had the same on the RK witgout a faring. Either one is a nice ride, but for my money, the Standard was a good starting point for building (add on's) something I wanted. Good luck in your choice.

EG all the way. The only I added when I had a Standard was a stereo with Hogtune Speakers.

Batwings are cool!

I heard all the stories about wind making the EG pratically unridable. All baloney. I've put about 4,000 miles on my EGC so far this year and have never experienced anything bad about the Batwing. You will feel some buffeting on an interstate loaded with speeding tractor trailers, but that is true of any bike. I've never ridden a Road Glide so I can't give pros and cons from a personal standpoint, but I've been told they are excellent rides. I'm a medium sized guy myself so the EG fits me better than a RG would.

Why no consideration to the SG, lot more bang for the buck, and the cross wind concern, total BS, no problem whatsoever.

Interesting....well I'm definitely not selling my cbr1100xx but love having a 2nd alter ego bike to switch up with.....right now it's a Triumph Bonneville and I love it but the harsh ride is getting old....and I'm on my last try with aftermarket suspension tweaks......

Love the SG look but since it's lowered....I've heard it rides a little harsher and I want the most plush ride possible. Also the EG standard is less money and I really don't care about a stereo.

As much as I like the EG standard I will most likely bite the bullet and get the Road Glide. Would just need to put some Wide Glide bars and chop the shield....done. It's a couple grand more.....but man did I like the way that thing rode/handled noticeably more fun to me than the EG classic I rode. The RG fairing is more aerodynamic (and uglier to many) and works well.

Seat and bars are only "Fit" differance between the two, but you get a lot less with the standard, about a grand less chrome, no radio/cd system, less gauges, no cruz controll. So the 2k becomes a deal if you try and add this stuff, over 4k with labor. And resale value will always be more than the bare bones standard, guess it boils down to what you want, if it includes chroming the motor and a radio, buy the RG, if you dont, go standard. A Seat and bars off a standard will cost you less than 200.00(stock glide seats on ebay all the time for 50.00-100.00) new bars, 50.00.

I have an '06 EG Standard and if I could do it again I would buy an Ultra and strip it down to get the look I wanted. I do love my bike but it took a lot of $ to get it there.
