Unhappy Crashed yesterday

Yesterday, while waiting at a stop light this stupid lady behind me thought the light changed stomps on the accelerator and runs into my bike I just go out of the shop.
I had my 8 year old boy on the back too, he had a helmet and was protected by a riders backrest and a passengers back rest, thank goodness, he is doing fine. I have cuts and bruises, but i'm harley guy, I'm suppose to be tough! right?
Now for the damage, rear fender into the tire, both bags shattered, along with the brackets.
Light bar around the bags bent.
pipes bent.
The bags broke the covers for the fuses and ECM.
Both sides.
I had lots of chrome on the back with extra lights, their all bent to hell.
I also hit the van in front of me causing my front fender to bend.
I think this bike might be headed to the boneyard.
This is something I've never experienced before with a bike.
several questions here?
Has anyone asked the insurance company for a rental bike?
How bout dealing with Allstate claims?
If they total my bike, what can I do with all of my chrome I installed on it?
I just want it fixed. How long with it take?
I had it towed to an aftermarket motorcycle repair shop, not the stealership!
Should I get new parts are used?
With Harleys there is a lot of little issues that will arise as the repair process begins, I'm NOT absorbing any of these costs, and I'm Damned sure i'm not filing a claim with my insurance company.
Oh, my arm hit the radio, Sony, the memory stick bent over causing one of the cuts in my arm, should I have all the electrical checked out including the radio system?
Thanks all for comments.

Dave

You do mean to say that both you and your son have excruciating back, neck and head pain right? He will be traumatized for life with emotional scars and will always fear motorcycles and women in general.

Sorry bout that. Just glad you are both okay and are able to be telling us about it instead of reading about it via a news source. Best of luck. Never been there (yet) so can't offer much advice.

Glad to hear you and your boy are ok. Just to be sure though, have both of you checked out by a doctor. Sometimes injuries don't show up right away. Screw that "tough guy" crap.
I assume the "lady" has insurance?
Just my $.02, but I would get the bike to an HD dealer and have them do an estimate for repairs. They will almost certainly be the most expensive, but it won't be you paying for it, right? And, I would be sure all new HD parts are specified, including all the extra chrome, and any electrical parts.

Absolutely right. Get to the doctor; get the bike in and get an estimate. Also, contact her insurance company and find out who is working the claim; they will try and make you happy so you don't get lawyers involved - they have quite a bit of leeway for payouts. If she and her insurance company aren't cooperating get a lawyer.

I was insured by Allstate when I hit a deer on my Goldwing. They were very good to me and went out of their way to fix my bike. Depending on the year of your bike they will probally fix it. Be sure to get paid for all your personal property that was damaged.

1.Don't forget to claim things like helmets, gloves, jackets, footwear, ect.. Anything that was damaged due to her negligence.

2.Don't sign off on anything until you are sure that you were made whole on your claim.

3.Make sure you get a copy of the police reports showing her to be at fault.

4.Get everything in writting and save copys of everything.

If I was in your situation I would take the bike to a Harley Dealership for estimates of damage. Glad you and your son are o.k..

Man I'm just glad your boy is OK...It could have ended a lot worse...How would you cope with it if your son had been seriously injured? I can't imagine what I would do. Good luck to you.

Definitely seek medical attention .. Throughly Check the Frame .. Replace every broken piece .. Make darn sure you are getting every dollar back you ever invested or get a lawyer and go for the Max ... Main thing is glad you and your son are okay but get this confirmed medically can do damage without knowing it right off the bat ..

totally agree get it to the dealership now -- you also want to get diminished value
