RE: V&H oval slip-ons?
I ordered mine on ebay last week for just under $400 which is about $100 off MSRP. I'll repost once I have them installed regarding the sound. I haven't heard SE slip-ons but my dealer informed me that the sound with the SE's for the '07 models wouldn't be much louder than stock.....I'm not sure how true this is but he mentioned new regulations are forcing them to reduce sound output.

The ovals are a little quieter than the SE and have a much lower deeper sound. There quite polite at highway speeds and have excellent quality. Another good choice is the wild pigs with 1.75 inch baffles, there a hair louder than SE but have a nice deep sound similar to the ovals just one notch louder. The nice thing about the pigs is they cost under 200 US delivered with a T-shirt!

RE: V&H oval slip-ons?
I have the Ovals on my RK Classic with the stock headpipes and they are just what I wanted... Deep rumbling sound, yet not too loud.
On my previous bike, a Heritage Classic, the front pipe ended just under the rider. I thought this pipe setup was what I wanted until running down the interstate at 75 mph for an hour. The sound (read: noise) of the front pipe at a high power setting bouncing off the pavement and back to my ear was a bit much for me. After 21 years of driving airplanes around for the USAF, I already have a partial hearing loss. The touring model exhaust setup with the pipes ending at the rear is really good for reducing the sound levels for the rider.
I haven't heard the SE pipes, so I have no comparison, but I like my V&H Oval slip-ons.

RE: V&H oval slip-ons?
I had had oval slip ons installed before I took delivery of my 06 SG. I had never had a Harley berfore with stock pipes and slip ons. I loved this set up to be honest. they sounded very good. The ovals look great on the SG and I have to say, after installing Dresser VH True Duals, I'm not sure I'd do it again. Regardless of what people say, and I did do a SERT tune when swapping out the pipes, I lost torque with the true duals, they got louder, not a lot but still louder, and overall the bike isn't as brisk as it was. Mines a 95 with 203's and I got 79 HP and 90 ft/lb torque, so not bad numbers, but a lot of the time there sounds like more noise than there is performance. My stock pipes and slip felt brisker. These feel a lot like my old VH STraightshot drag pipes on my Fatboy before I went to my Thunderheader. I spent a chunck of change paying for, installing and tuning the duals, and I'm not unhappy, but persoanlly the HD stock pipes witht the crossover and slip ons make for a pretty nice combo. I'm probably heading to either the new Thunderheader TR
UE DUALS, TH with falsie or D and D Fatcat with a falsie. I'm not in a hurry, cause the bike runs good, just nothing special about true duals in my book.

I have the V&H Ovals. Prior to that I had the SEII's for the baggers. I loved the SE's and would still be running them, but I had a quality issue with them (rotted out at the neck in one year). I got a second pair that had a loose baffle that squeeked. Thus, I gave up on them and went with the V&H.
The V&H are a quality pipe, great chrome, look great. (By the way, throw out the clamps they send you and spring for two HD Torca clamps - the V&H don't clamp down tight enough - yes, I ground them down).
The SEII and the V&H were about the same at idle, with the SE's a bit louder and with a sharper tone. What happens is as you go up in RPMs, the SE's start to blat while the V&H continue to muffle and rumble.
The V&H have a nice deep rumble and sound even better as the bike is under load. They are a good sounding, good looking choice if you don't want your exhaust to border on obnoxious.
When I first got them, they were too quiet. After about 6K they are opening up nicely and I like them more and more, although the kid in me still wishes they were a wee bit louder!
I got mine from M&M for under $400.

RE: V&H oval slip-ons?
I ran them on the stock head pipes and they sounded OK. They're louder than stock and looked good. I switched over to the True Duals and they got louder. The Duals look good and help with the heat on the right side. As far a TQ or HP after the switch I couldn't tell much difference. For me the Ovals on either the stock or dual head pipes are just a little too loud. I've also heard better sounding (deeper) sounding mufflers. I'll keep the dual head pipes but I'm looking for a different set of mufflers. Best bet is to find some you can hear before spending the money.

I used the stock clamps and it worked out great! (Thanks Primo!)
I have stock headers and plan on installing V&H True duals this winter.
I really like the sound and love the looks!
