Default First gear: grind then clunk

This is on a buddy's 2005 RK - when he shifts into first, he gets about a 1 second grinding noise then it clunks in.

Is this just a matter of clutch adjustment?

Sounds like a clutch adjustment is in order may want to change the tranny lube to bel ray or similiar gear oil.

Clutch and/or primary chain adjustment.
