Default 6 Speed Tranny- Noisy!

I have an 09 streetglide, I find the tranny is pretty loud and clunky. I have heard other people say the same. I recently changed over to the SE Syn3 after doing a handlebar upgrade, and have noticed it seems louder.

What do you think? I've heard people say brands like Spectro and Amsoil synthetics will quiet the tranny quite a bit.

Default 2010 Street Glide

I just picked up a new Street Glide and find it a little clunky going ito gear and its sometimes tough to get neutral. I'm told though that once broken its much better. I'm also going to run the same oil I ran in my Evo tranny, Amsoil 75-140. To me 20-50 engine oil syntetic or not has no place in a manual transmission of this type. JMHO

I find my 6 speed to be noisier overall than my 5 speed. Syn 3 is not a good idea for the tranny, at least in my experience it banged like a blacksmith beating on an anvil. Although I think there is a guy posting on here with like 90K on his bike and all he has ever run is Syn3 so my unscientific "sounds noisier to me" theory may just be BS...

Lot's of tranny oil threads with good info, or too much info actually....!

Switch to gear oil from the 20-50wt. Bel Ray, Amsoil, Redline, Mobil and more all make products that will quiet it down.

My opinion is it depends on what it likes and the way you ride. I just switched over to amsoil 20/50 and it shifts smoother and quieter. Trial and error.....either way you need to put something synthetic in there.

Good luck!

Golden Spectro has a new transmission oil made specifically for the new 6 speed harley transmissions. I used it in my 09 and it made a significant difference, especially the 5th gear whine. It is definately pricey, and sometimes hard to find, but it worked well for me.

When the 10 is ready for 1k service, it will be getting the spectro 6
