I have a 2009 FLHTCU and I had the same problem. Clunked going into first and hard to get into neutral. 5th gear was very noisy. This has to do with the way they cut of the 5th gear. In 2010 they changed the type of cut. I changed to Amsoil Severe Gear 140W and it has helped the shifting alot and it quietened the 5th gear noise also.

Yes don't use Syn 3 in your engine, transmission, primary or lawn mower there are much better options.

i have a 10 ultra and the first time i dropped it into 1st, i thought something was wrong. Damn was that think loud. I've had my first 1000m service and switched to syn and its better but stull noisey. have occasional problems finding neutral. hope it gets better as time goes on.

Get that engine oil out of the tranny and put some proper gear lube in. I use 75-110 Severe Gear by Amsoil in mine and it made a large difference.
