Default Question for those who have former police bikes

My question is for those of you who have former police bikes and are still running the stock Dunlop Run-Flat police tires. I have a 2005 FLHTPI and I noticed when I lean into a curve or negotiate around a manhole cover, I feel a small vibration and hear a hum that seems to come from the front tire. I'm wondering if this is normal because of the compound of the tire or might be an issue developing. I don't seem to feel anything when riding straight, outside of the normal road feel. Thanks for the help.

I get the same vibration and noise... 06 FLHPI w/stock run flats... I've been curious to a cause as well... Maybe someone will know...

Local dealers replace them before sale for liability reasons. Last bike a friend bought last year would not be delivered with stock tires.

When I bought my '04 TPI the dealer had changed out the OEM tires. But I'm curious about whether the tires you are running are the original tires (5 years old) and how many miles they have.

And do you ride two-up with them?

I've had the same hum & vibration (very slight) with all the 402s I've had on the front when I'm in a curve/turn at posted speed, I'm convinced it's just the tread. Wore out a few and never had a problem.

I'm running the Dunlap Run-Flats, front and rear. I get the hum and a tiny vibration.

I'll trade that for the extra security.

My bike had 402's on it when I bought it. Got a nail in the back tire and it overheated as I maneuvered to get off the highway. So, replaced it with an Elite III. AWESOME tire...very stable and quiet.

The run-flats are supposedly not rated for two-up riding.

Yeah, I am running the stock 5 year old tire. I don't ride two-up, the misses doesn't care to ride and the tires only have about 4000 miles on them, I don't get out to ride as much as I like with work, but this year I've been squeezing in more riding time.

She won't ride with you?

I've been really happy with my cop glide. The gradual evolution into the stage 1 and 2 realm is happening as I can afford it, and the bike is coming alive. Minimum required: better air filter, mufflers and fuel controller. It's like a different machine now...runs cooler, responds to throttle better and sounds like a Harley should.

Seat wise, I'm actually planning to put the air ride seat back on, with the Mustang matching pillion seat for wifey. That cop seat may be kinda fugly (like a leather tractor seat) but it sure rides NICE.

I just put on +2 Khromewerks sweeper bars and comfort factor is much improved. Arms are more relaxed and wrists in a more neutral position.

Next thing to watch out for on your bike is the dreaded cam chain tensioner shoe self-destruction issue. I'm going to upgrade to hydraulic, and a set of real cams while I'm in there. Might put on a set of 95" jugs while I'm at it.

Have you noticed any cagers slowing down after seeing you behind them? I wear a white helmet, accompanied by a 80's cheesy pornstar/cop moustache.

I haven't noticed anyone slowing when I'm behind them, probably because mine is all black. They only slow down when I get behind them when I'm working.
