1000,mile service

The only problem I have found in doing the service yourself is when you have to take the bike in for warranty work and they hound you over the service with constant questions about it trying to sell their service. Other than that, no real issues.
Pretty simple and straighforward procedure and ample details on the forum for specifics, just search for 1K service and you will be surprised at all the information.

One nice thing about buying used bikes that are off warranty: There's no debate about taking it to the dealer for service -- do it myself. Besides, I enjoy doing the minor maintenance and checks as much as riding. I know, that is sad and demented.

I took it in for the first one for two reasons:
1. Gave me a good excuse to take a day off for a bike ride up to Annapolis
2. Peace of mind since I had two missing engine mount bolts found when I had warranty service performed.
Everything is staying in place so now and I have a shiny new Service Manual and a bottle of Lock-Tite for the next interval.
