Can you maintain 60 mph on the Alaska Highway? I know the road construction can be bad. Is the raod good enough to make some time on?
Sounds like we should gove ourselves 9 to 10 days to get there.

My brother has made the trip from ATL to Wasilla the last two years and is doing it again in June. He flys down and I take him to Chatanooga Tn to purchase a GL1800 (he wont buy the HD) and then rides it back to sell later. He is keeping this one though. So he says. But anyway he has experience and great pictures along the way. This year he is riding with a bud who he works with.

Sounds doable. How long is it taking him to get back up?

He gives himself around 7 to 8 days to make the ride back. Do not hold me to this because when he leaves ATL he heads to Texas, Arkansas to visit family then he headed to Arizona to visit a friend. Then up the Canada and into Ak. Id say it takes him a week once he actually begins his trip home. I think he told me it took three days once you reach the US Canada border. I will ask him tomorrow when he arrives.

Those of you who have done the ride make it sound like a dream ride. I must do this...!!!

I think the wife might even enjoy the ride, as long as she can bring her Nikon to take pictures along the way.

I think we are convinved now. Sounds like if we give ourselves 8 days to get there the wives would not have to wait. We can take more time coming home. Its something we always talked about and have decided to do while we can. Everyone calls it "The ride of a lifetime"

Default Been On My Radar

Been thinking of the ride myself but never do it. I may go next year so please anyone that does the trip this summer let us know the good, bad and ugly of this ride.

I myself have been there in the summer (flew & cruise)and it rained every day, was expensive and the roads were not good. The experiences above were much better than mine.

The speed limit is good for 65 MPH, he says the last one hundred miles is the worst though, proceed with caution as the roads become damaged from the harsh enviroment.
He also confirmed that once you get to the Canada border, give yourself about 6 days (confortable, not real demanding, take some pictures) to make the AK stateline. But you will not regret the ride experience. Like I said, this is his third trip up, got to be something about riding that far!
