Default Scratched Red Hot Sunglow paint?

Got a scratch on your red hot sunglow paint? I have been to the dealer and tried to get some touch up paint for red hot sunglow. Well guess what, most dealers don't stock touch up paint. It has to be ordered, and like many other HD parts, it is on back order with no release date.
I found a way around this obstacle at Pep Boys. If you go to the paint section look for "SCRATCH FIX 2 in 1" for import vehicles Part # HA 00955.
This is the exact same color as red hot sunglow. There is a 2 piece applicator ( a roller ball tip for fine scratches, and a small brush for paint chips and deeper scratches) that can repair most paint blemishes.
Costs under $7.00

That good to know. Thanks for sharing the information. I've already got a couple small chips in the paint of my '09 Red Hot Sunglow and Smokey Gold Ultra Classic. I'll save that info.

Good tip.

Now I need to move. No Pep-Boys in WI.
But you did start me searching the Auto shops now.

Thanks,
Bob

Thanks, good to kow. I bought Harely touch up at the dealer for my Sportster last year and it cost me $20. I dropped a lock on my tour pack and chipped the paint so I'll try the Pep Boys paint.

Can anyone tell me the correct procedure for fixing paint chip? My
bottles of touch up have the instrutions rubbed off. Do you put the
color on first or metal flake and I take it you let it dry in between??
It's been a while since I have done it. Thanks

Typically with repairing paint chips you need to do the following:
1. Clean the area to be repaired thoroughly.
2. Go over the area with some "pre paint" or 70% isopropyl alcohol.
3. Mask around the scratch with painters tape as best you can, leaving about 3 mm of space all around the area.
4. Shake your touch up pain very thoroughly (if you have a heat gun, gently heat the paint to about 90-95 degrees).
5. Heat the area to be painted to about 100 to 110 degrees. (this allows the metal molecules to spread out a little and give the binders in the paint more to cling to).
6. Apply the paint in very thin layers, (do not dab the paint at the chip, this will make the paint layers un-even, and the job WILL look like a child did it. Apply the paint from left to right and then up and down in an X pattern. Now you know why the area was masked off. Wait about 5 minutes between coats (about 3 coats should be applied).
7. After the paint is dry, gently heat the area again to harden the paint. This will also reduce any transition lines between the factory paint and the touch up paint.
8. 24 hours later, apply a good base layer of wax.
Hope this helps.
Dwayne
