Default Engine Light on....HELP

Hey all, I installed some SE203 cams, PCIII, SE Heavy Breather, new plugs in my scoot over the winter. I put maybe a couple hundred miles on it and had no problem other than when I first start out, it kinda sputters. Well, I just went on a 300 mile ride and now I have a concern. I usually start my bike after the oil and engine lights go out on the dash. Well, now when I start it the engine light comes back on for a few seconds then goes away. How can I tell if I have a code or problem? Thanks.

Do a search but I believe that when you add the PCIII the light does that.

The PCIII can sometimes throw codes every now and again. In any event, you need to check your codes and see what the code is. Then you can check to see if it is a problem or if it's just an historical code that can be cleared. Usual culprits can be something like a loose spark plug wire and when you pop it back down it takes care of it, but again just check the codes to see what it tells you. Once any issue is fixed you can either clear the code or wait 50 engine cycles and it will clear itself.

Do I have to take it to a dealer to check the code or is there another way? THanks.

Not sure what year the bike is, but if you go to the engine diagnostic section of the DIY section on the forum you will find a sticky on how to check the codes through the speedo and how to do it for the older bikes

When you add the PCIII it logs a historical code and will come on for 50 starts. Everything is fine if it goes back out.

Default It's Normal with a PC

After I put on a PCV on my bike, it did the same thing. When my bike was in at the dealer getting a security FOB programmed, I had them check it out.

$40 dollars later (just for checking the codes) the stealer said it is because I had a power commander plugged in....

I posted the same thing you did on the forum and was told it's normal.

Scott
