Drilling and pinning the shifter shaft to the splined shaft that runs into the tranny is only going to f*uck up the splined shaft.

If you are comfortable removing the outer and inner primary and have the tools and supplies, the job is not that bad. The section of the inner primary that needs to be clearanced will not weaken the primary or cause leeking. In fact there is already a cut out there and it just needs 1/4 of material removed. I used a Saws all with a fine metal blade and then used a file to radius the corners and prevent any stress cracks. All in all - clearancing the primary was a 10 minute job.

Now that there is a grade 8 bolt with a steel lock nut providing the clamping force to hold the shifter lever to the shaft, it is a much stronger set up than the stock shifter shaft with a single small Allen head bolt to provide the clamping force.

Gauranteed a dealer will not do this job, since the primary gets "modified". If you don't have the tools, bring it to an Indy that you trust to do the job.

One last thing - the seals are cheap and worth replacing in the primary when you do the job. Put tape on the Tranny main shaft so you do not damage the new seals when reassembling.
