Your response made me go back and (re)rack my brain. What I actually had wasn't a true fairing. It was a plexi windshield made in the general shape of a fairing. I believe it mounted to the bars and forks. Forgive me if 37 years has dimmed my details though, lol.

The Windjammers were nice fairings but...well...I was young and made about $2.75 an hour.....

Sounds kinda like a hybrid. Yeah, Vetter made decent fairings.

I just bought my first touring bike, a couple weeks ago, an 03 ultra classic, really like it, and it seems to be well taken care of. Looking forward to many many miles on that thing.

09 Road King, wish I had bought one sooner. I guess when young one cannot see the forest for the trees.

Got a 07 FLHX a few months ago, not sure how I feel about it yet, lol.

If I could get a few problems figured out I think I'd be way more happy with it.

I went from a 2010 Dyna super glide spent a ton of money to make it a two up highway burner my wife and I took a 800 mile trip and lost a rear wheel bearing got to harley shop and was told 1200 bucks seven to ten days for a new wheel to show up so found a 2011 road king with tour pack and yeah total different feeling of awkwardness and then put the wife on it for the 400 mile trip home I Absolutely love the bike and have become very comfortable with it after the first month
Wasn't going to tell the wife I was scared as hell with her on the back thought I was going to drop it at every parking spot and slow speed corner

Went from a 2003 FatBoy to a 2009 Road King back in September. Love the bike....especially when going on a longer trip with my better half. Shocked at how quick and agile it is for a bigger bike. Looking forward to many more miles once this stupid snow melts here in Maine......

Still own and love the Fatty though.........not gonna lie, nothing beats the feeling of throwing a leg over that older carbed bike and cruising around town.....feels and sounds like a Harley was meant to. I find myself making changes to the King to make it feel more and more like my FatBoy!!
