My first HD touring bike, and today it made it over a total of 50 miles on the odometer. Top of the pass and 52 miles total.

3rd Harley, but first tourer. Can’t believe I waited this long. Took me a few rides to get rid of being intimidated by the weight. Now I ride it like a sport bike!

Just take yourself out for the day and ride a tankful off. You'll feel much more at ease with it by the time you get back home. Whenever we change bike its a good idea to do that soon after taking it home.

Me
I took the better half on the Devil's Triangle in Tennessee last year. She informed me when we got back that she wasn't doing that again on a Heritage.

So she got me this - I have the best girl in the world! (and she's a redhead)

This feels like going to confession...

My last road machine was a 1975 Honda CB-750 which I equipped with a batwing and tour pack. We rode the guts out of that bike. Sold it in 1980 to buy an angus bull (it's true!) for our young farm. That was the last time I was on 2 wheels. In the meantime we made a farm happen...careers took off...a daughter raised and put through college...a business established...so many things over the decades. But neither of us ever completely lost or forgot the magnetic pull of a big bike on the open road. We just kept finding things or reasons to put off doing anything about it.

2017: I confessed to her I didn't want to leave Planet Earth without owning at least one more big motorcycle and riding together. She agreed...said yes!....and the adventure started again. There was never any discussion of anything except a full bagger Harley. We're middle Americans and we love our country, apple pie, and real steaks grilled over real charcoal. It had to be a Harley...no other way to explain it. Some things are iconic and must be experienced.

Ultra Limited. Ultra challenging. Imagine going from no bike straight to this one after 37 years of no riding. I don't recommend doing it this way. But somehow it worked...probably because of luck and hard work at learning to ride again. Lots of parking lot practice and street riding. I went from being terrified of tipping/dropping it to a place of greater confidence...after dropping it several times and giving both of us some unwanted bruises. A couple times I thought I'd taken on more than I was capable of doing. I was just wrong and saw that after months.

I/we are still in development mode with the big touring ride. Every time we leave the driveway my unspoken promise is to bring us back home uninjured. I prefer to ride humble and keep it real on the road. Our Limited is a dream realized and we both hope to enjoy it...and the highway...for many years and miles.
