A little late in the game...
I just bought my first HD, and it's a tourer. I LOVE IT! After riding my Shadow and VTX all these years, and doing road trips with my friends, all of whom have Goldwings, I decided it was time to step my game up.
I just picked up a SWEET 90th Anniversary FLHTCU. She rides GREAT! I am already planning my mods for her, starting with a new stereo. I am debating retaining the steering controls, since the kits I have seen cost nearly $600. I may just hard-wire a good marine-grade stereo in there. Next, is the QD tour-pack kit. I also want to piece together a spare tin-set. I wanna have the option to go back and forth between the anniversary scheme and a matte-black SG appearance. I am not sure if I want to try to troubleshoot the cruise control. From what I've been reading, that can get pricey, given the age of my bike and the availability of the parts to fix it. Plus, coming from my previous two bikes, I am still driving an "upgraded" bike. (Minus the radiator...) LoL!
With all that being said, I am all ears, when it comes to the sagely guidance of those whom have done these things before I.

This is my follow up to checking in as a first time HD Touring rider a couple months back. The north-eastern weather has finally made riding possible and in the past couple weeks I have been able to get a couple hundred miles on my new ride. First couple times out was a simple matter of getting acclimated to everything, where stuff is, how it feels, etc. and the new to me foot forward riding position, especially when starting off and stopping. And, I really feared the weight. But I have to say I am completely surprised how quickly I have become comfortable with this machine. And that will only get better. First bike that suits me just fine with the seating position and bar/wrist relationship. No pain or discomfort of any kind, especially my back or knees which I was also worried about. The bike is locomotive smooth and tracks like it's in a rail. Not skittish or nervous like so many others. It's certainly a completely different riding attititude but at my current stage of life it suits me just fine. And it's a beauty to look at! Very pleased.
