Default Any New Tire Choices For 09+ Tourers?

I see Dunlop offers their own "American Elite" tires, but they have the same specs as the OEM's they furnish through HD dealers. Neither Metzeler or Michelin show a fitment for the 09+ sizes yet.

I was getting ready to post the same question. I have 17500 miles on my original tires. Rather more than I expected. Then again, the majority are freeway miles.

That's good mileage nemick. I changed mine at 9800, and probably could have run them another 1,000 to the wear bars. But I had the bike up on the stand and the rear was really squared off. The 407 front was severely cupped too so I just mounted a new set.

Harley and Dunlop have an Exclusive contract for two years. No one else can sell the 180/65B16 tire until August 2010.
You will find tire retailers will sell you the tire, but say they have them August 2010.

I can see Dunlop giving HD an exclusive on marketing the tires Dunlop makes for a period of time. This in exchange for HD using Dunlop exclusively for this application. I find it hard to believe that "any company has an exclusive on a size"? Dunlop obviously got the head start since they developed the tires ahead of time with HD.

DDTGlide, thanks for pointing out Avon. At least there's a choice now. Checking their specs on the rear the Avon is 7.3" wide vs the Dunlop at 7.19", 25" diameter vs Dunlop at 25.33", and 8/32's vs Dunlop 10/32's tread depth.

I believe the tread depth on Avon's website is in mm, 8.3mm would be a little over 10/32. It might be worth a try, I've always found Avons to be a great handling tire, sometimes a little less mileage, there's always a trade off.

Any one know who sells tires for the 2008 roadking other then Dunlop. I have looked at several manufactures and do not see a listing for Harley Davidson? Thanks
