I have the 16" flat top from flhtwindshields and was really glad I had it on yesterday. Coming home for a funeral and had a 18 wheeler in the other lane(2 lane road)shreading a tire and a piece about the size of a tennis ball clipped the top of the windshied and went right over my head, almost crapped my pants. Glad I like riding behind the windshield and not looking over it.

I feel the same way I really don't enjoy riding without it anymore.Just getting allot of wind from under the windshield what to do for that.

You can get some chrome or stainless steel lowers (wings) to deflect that, but you may not like the looks on your bike and I do not think they are usually "detachable", so you would be taking them on-and-off if you did not like the looks.

I agree, that's why I ended up with a Touring Bike. I put a winshield on my Fat Boy, then one day I took it off. I put it right back on when I got home. Then I got to thinking, if I'm never going to take it off I might have well have a real bagger. lol

Well that and I test rode a Roak King, DAMN DEMO DAY anyways.

I put one on my sportster after taking a 1800 mile trip to canada and back to Pa., I never owned a bike before so I didnt know any better. After 6 days on the road, I couldnt stand straight for a couple days, my right hand was sore for about a week after the trip, at the end of each day I was exhausted. 34k miles later, I never take the windshield off the bike, I tried a short ride last year without it and made it about 2 miles before going home and putting it back on.

I use mine for long road trips (away from home) or when its cold. For around town in hot weather - no windshield - the RK Custom looks a lot better without it.

My softail standard had one of those small quick detach windshields. I thought it looked hokey really. I took it off one weekend, rode around town, for the weekend. Then took it on the highway,,, my cheeks were pulled back, neck was sore,, came home put it right back on. (Gonna get a slightly taller one for my SG too. Still up in the air as to which one....
