Default D407 180/65B16 tire works like run flat

Got off the freeway tonight after work (2nd shift) and it was wobbly. I just wanted to get it 3 more miles to my driveway and it worked. I had been up to 85 mph in the 20 mile trip and didn`t know there was a problem until slowing down. I jacked it up and it was hot rubber but think I found a small slit. Will check it further in the morning. At least I got it home. Guess I`ll be biting the bullet on replacement as there aren`t any options I know of but the dealer supplied tire.

Mine didn't work like a run-flat. When the rear tire went down, I couldn't even push it out of the garage.

Very interesting senario. Hope I never have to test the possibility of a tire staying up after loosing its air but I sure hope you are right and it did. A tire going flat is something I've always been worried about as we do a lot of 2-up touring.

I wish they would make a run flat tire with air pressure monitor, but that would cost like a gajillion dollars.

Default 2 inch slit in center of tire

It`s like I went over a spike strip. There`s a jagged 2 in. slit inside and outside dead center of the tread. Got the nearest dealer to mount and balance it on the wheel I brought in ....$300. It was done within 30 minutes. Now I`m left curious what did it. I remember hearing something but hoped it was the music on the stereo. It was like I was impaired after I stopped at the freeway exit. Just wanted to limp it home hoping I was imagining it. The fact that it hung on like a runflat makes me want to stay with this specific tire though.
