I've had real good luck with this 2 ltr pop bottle cut like this. I can work it all the way up and over the filter and big cut out gives me plenty of room to get the filter wrench on.
I use old HD advertisement brochures half rolled under the filter and a small rag on top of front motor mount, never had a spill yet . Nothing to save or clean all recyclable stuff.
The oil filter drain catcher sold under the H-D logo might work fairly well except when you have a cylinder base cover installed. This cover, H-D or Kuryakyn, interferes with the placement of the catcher to the extent that unscrewing of the filter is essentailly impossible because these covers go over the crankshaft pickup.. I have one but have yet to use it because of the difficulty described above. I would suspect that all of the "oil catchers" described in the previous posts might suffer similar problems.
