2007 flhtc starter issues (solved?)
Well i finally have my bike back to normal i think...I was having bad intermitent starter grinding, mostly when it got hot. plus my fuel gauge quit so i took it in the shop.....I have a ext.warranty......so i wanted to get it all fixed at once to only pay my $50 deductible 1 time,....They put a new fuel sending unit and that fixed my gauge. Then they went to the starter....
1-DId the service bulletin to clean the contact surface and re torque the bolts
2-Check the voltage drop (good)
3-Installed a new exhaust bracket(apparently it helps the groung)
4-Put a new ground cable
5-New compensator sprocket, Now i know a lot of people told me to put a SE Comp Sprocket but i didn't feel like spending an extra $125.00 and extensively discussed this with my service manager. My thoughts was that since my Comp sprocket had been acting up since the bike had about 10000 miles it now had 42000 miles and this problem popped up then it would not be the sprocket and i just didn't want to mask the problem.
3 weeks go by now and nothing from MOCO...finally i happen to meet the RFegional service director at an event and told him that my Service MGR wasn't getting anything fromMOCO... VOILA. Tuesday morning get a call back from him...He talked to MOCO and helped my Service MGR....
6-Installed a new SE high torque starter....No more problems...Engages great...
The good thing about this is that i got a new comp sprocket and a SE high torque starter covered under warranty for $50.00 deductible and i still have 1.5 years left on my ESP...I would've spent way more that $960.00 to figure out what the problem was and my bike is now hopefully fixed for good....
My wife also now said that she would like to get rid of her bike and we should get a Ultra Limited????? She's a damn keeper i would say...
