If they are not lined up straight into the spring they feel like they are tight but they are not latched. If you dont feel them roll over the spring then YOU didnt install it correctly. Once the spring is locked in they CAN NOT back out.

Same system used to hold 300 mph drag car bodies on, install them right they work!

+1 Absolutely correct-- A dzus fastener can't come loose if it is installed correctly. They will always want to tighten rather than loosen, which is why a bazillion or two are used on commercial aircraft.

The only way I think they would come loose is if the spring breaks which would be as rare a rocking horse ch1t....

True... unless the fasteners are defective or worn. If you find them way too easy to turn, one way or the other then you'd better replace them A.S.A.P.

I just put a stainless bolt, fender washer, and nylon locknut on the front side of each bag just to be safe.

I think the problems people had were with them breaking, the wire that the fastener hooked around had broken.

Been riding with the OEM 1/4 turn pins since 1998 and never had one fail, however due to reports of theifs, I replaced one on each side with the ebay bolt, PIA but rather be safe than sorry.

Be Safe JIM

Same here...allen head bolt, unut, fender washers. Good security and good safety. I keep a set of dzus fasteners in my bag just-in-case!

I've never had a problem with mine but I always double check to make sure that the spring caught as pointed out by hog-doc.
