Default twin cam motors are junk

I purchased a 2005 Electraglide standard new, I've keep it serviced and have ridden it with respect. NOW at 43,000 miles it starts knocking, so it needs cam bearings and possibly lifters valves and who know what else. As much as they cost you'd think they would go at least 100,000 mi. but I guess the UNION wants them to fail so they can build more new ones. When it's fixed I'm selling and purchasing an EVO.

What does the union have to do with your bike crapping out? They didn't design it.

Yeah the TC's are not quite as bullet proof as are the evo motors that's for sure. I have a 99 last year of the evo's that I was thinking about selling to help pay for my 09 SG. My friend tells me to hang on it. He may just be right.

However, now you can do those engine mods that you've been wantiing to do..and when it's fixed it'll run better than new. Now you can change cams too, sounds like $ for sure but also sounds like it will be new bike, again.. Try and have fun..

sorry to hear that has happened. But without getting you more upset, sometimes these things happen, and yeah it sucks, that it happen to you. I know people who have had horror stories with chevy, ford, and other "union" manufacturers, including the foreign makers..hope it works out for you but to say that HD workers are purposely making faulty engines is unfair..just my 2 cents.

So it worked flawlessly for 5 years and 43,000 miles and now your motor is just pure JUNK? I see it a lot where i work. " Such product worked great and provided me with hours and years of pleasure and fun, i told everyone how great it was and how they should buy one and now that it has a setback its a piece of crap no good junk and i would not recommend it."

Sorry to hear your motor crapped out, but the majority of twin cams work just great. Look at this as an opporutunity for upgrades as some one else said. the great members on this forum will be glad to help you pick parts to make your tc more powerful and reliable. Good luck with your new project!

Wouldn't mind seeing the maintenance done to the bike over the years, I know he said he maintained it but some think that changing the engine oil once a year is all you need to do.
