One thing that I have noticed is that the gage reads differently when riding or sitting still. If I am cruising @ 60-70mph on a level section of road with the gage reading about 1/4 and then stop at a light, the gage will read close to 1/2.

The wife and I just rode from Tucson to San Diego and back this weekend on My 2010 Ultra. The stretch between Gila Bend and El Centro is 178 miles and I decided it would be easy to make it. About 50 miles to go the guage was below "E" and to say the least I was nervous! I kept checking the miles left and it said I could make it with 25 miles left. I say to the wife via intercom when the light came on that we had better see that big In 'n Out burger sign quick! Fueled up 5.3 gallons. It got about 35 mpg the whole trip fully loaded at 70-75mph.

It also ran very hot, so Stage 1 and slip-ons are next. Bottom line is the guage sucks and the trip meter and miles left are the ones to pay close attention to.

Well, I must add that my fuel gauge never leaves full. The count down to empty shows LO with 3.2 gallons left. Setting the trip works but I really dont expect to have to do this in 2010. The dealer said they were sure they could get it working for me. I have no doubt it can be improved. LOL

If weather holds out, I have an appointment on friday to finish up a few things and get the fuel gauge looked at.

I'll post back if they "improve" the situation.

Enjoy,
John

My experience - Can't rely on the guage at all, mine reads full for the first 80 miles (120 km), then slowly goes down to about the half full, then there is a precipitous drop to empty - that last half tank goes QUICK. If I wasn't relying on the trip meter there are times I would be pushing.....

Fuel gage on my 09 Ultra is accurate on full and empty and nothing in between, but the miles remaining is very accurate. Thats what I go by.

The fuel gauge on my 08 seems to be generally fairly close, but I rely on the trip meter and fuel remaining gauge as to when to fuel up.
