Default Idle is Way to High all of sudden

I have a 2001 HD Roadking FLHRI, been running great up untill yesturday morning When I started it it was Idleing very fast Tach is between 2200 - 2500 RPM, It usually runs around 1000 rpm when running normal. all of the sudden it is idleing to high. I dont really have a lot of knolege on this motor. I have changed spark plugs, also changed the Engine Temp Sensor thinking that may be the problem but still the same condition Any Ideas on how to trouble shoot this or a direction to move would be appreciated (bike shops backed up several weeks this time of year and dont want to be sitting )

There could be a vacuum leak somewhere. That will cause a lean condition = higher idle speed. Unfortunately I cannot tell you where to look, but first see if there are any hoses that are not connected tightly to the throttle body or intake tract.

There are two hoses on the throttle body that tend to dry rot but don't know if they are vacume or not. Also check your gas cap.

The IAC looks like a butterfly of a carb, the bolts might be broken or loose.

Dumb question but did you check to make sure your throttle cable is not binding?

Checked al the cables and they seem ok not binding and releasing as they should, It is fule injected so there is no carb.

This can be caused if you don't wait for the fuel pump to charge pressure into the system.
It is important to wait for the yellow engine lamp to go off after putting the console switch to run and the thumbswitch to run. Otherwise this can cause the engine to run lean and give you the higher idle speed. The engine will continue to run lean as the fuel pump struggles to catch up. This leaves air in the fuel. Since it is metered, the engine thinks it is getting the right amount of fuel, which it isn't. In turn, it runs lean and the idle speed is high as a result.

I would suggest, turning the bike off completely, giving it a bit, then turning the console switch to on, the thumbswitch to run, and wait until the engine light on the dash turns off. At this point, the fuel system should be charged.
This may not be the problem, but since you are lacking other prior symptoms I would want to rule this one out.

Good luck

SloChicken, I do follow the procedure you describe -- waiting when turning on the ignision for the lights on the dash to go out. This just started all of the sudden and now idles high all the time even after the bike warms up starting it idles at around 2200 rpm on tach and even after running at stop lights idle will not go below 2000 rpm --

Do you have the throttle lock? If by chance you do make sure you have not rotated it and increased your throttle to a higher setting. Just a thought...
