Default saddlebag lid latch trouble

I`ve found a problem with my lid not latching after leaving the the lid open and swung to the side overnight. Turns out the webbing gets stuck in the works when closing and the latch can`t do it`s thing. It`s as though the webbing stretched from being in tension for a long time. Any body have any tricks for getting the webbing to stay out of the pinch when closing the lid?

Right before the lid is almost closed, stick your fingers in there and push the strap away.

Same here, stick my hand in there and push the webbing out of the way.

I heard someone flip that webbing over for a month or so, so that it
bends back the other way and then reinstall correctly...

Sounded logical but never tried it.
