Zippers has a complete FI kit to upgrade. A bit pricey but if your going to keep the bike it would be worth the money.

i have a 99 ultra.,. evo, MM fuel injectiona and it is driving me batty. I have the manual and it is a help but not the answer. Long story short. bike worked well, out 17K on it the first year i owned (got it used) and loved the thing. I broke a crank bearing race and the peice got into the oil pump and sheared the key. I saw the pressure drop and cut it off right away. no money 3 moves and 3 years later i got the engine rebuilt. I upgraded it to a stage 2, the air cleaner, the cam, the injectors and the mufflers and i cant get it to idle. I have the PCIII on it with a custom map to a harley stage two right from the guys up there at PC.
It seems to warm idle ok just the cold idle is the issue. i can see the solenoid move it just dont go to the right place. I did the prceedure in the manual with no luck.
anyone else have a solution to this? how hard is it to switch to a carb? do you loose your cruise control if you switch to a cab.. just thinking of my options.. i would rather keep the injection but if it keeps giving me trouble i will be looking for another option.
thanks

A lot of people think that MM went out of the H-D FI picture when H-D switched to Delphi FI. In reality, the Delphi system is made to different specs written by Delphi and is different from the old MM system, but is made for Delphi by MM.

I had the MM system on a 2000 RG with no problems for about 75K miles. My wife's 2001 Heritage, her 2007 Ultra, and my 2008 RG all have Delphi systems. No problems with any of them. Carbs are very old school stuff. All auto manufacturers and now even H-D have all gone to FI exclusively. The reason why is obvious.

True, it does loose it's idle once every couple of years. Resetting it takes just a few minutes. I tuned it with a DFO and am happy. Mine has been pretty darn reliable, but it only has 79k miles on it.

I was ready to take HOGDOC's advise and convert to carb with my 95 build. I finally decided to replace seals, head temp sensor, map sensor, crank position sensor and throttle position sensor while we had it down. Jamie at Fuel Moto supplied me with a PCIII, mapped to my build. It seems to have cured my M&M demons and it now runs great.

  • Engine Temp Sensor: 32446-99
  • Manifold sensor (MAP): 32416-10
  • Throttle Position Sensor 27271-95
  • Manifold seals 26995-86B (2X)
  • Crankshaft Position Sensor: 32798-00B This sensor is for the 99-00 FLH, I believe. The 'book' will call for a 32707-01C but it has a 6" tail and connects at the front of the motor. The correct sensor has an appx 3' tail and connects under the right side cover.
