Default Lost the belt!

I was out for little burn Thursday after work, rode about 40-50 miles and decided it was time to head home. Got off the freeway and was stopped at the light, green light came up and I hit it, hit second gear and she let loose. It broke clean, I looked to see if there was any bad looking wear on the belt but it looks good. So my ? is there any tips I should know before I tear in to it? I've never done this before, but hard could it be. Thanks for any info.

It's pretty straight forward if you've got a manual, to be safe you probably should replace the seals on the inner primary, you'll need good air gun to remove the clutch basket & compensating sprocket, or you'll need a lock so you can use a long breaker bar. What year is your bike?

How many miles did you have on that belt? Just curious.

Highly suggest you have a manual, read through the process and decide yourself if you have the skills/tools. That's always been my MO and it has not let me down yet.

Sorry I have no direct "tips" for a belt change, have not been faced with that.....yet.

Ouch....not many miles there for a belt to let go from what I have read.

Maybe it sat for a long time, not many miles until recently (aged/cracked)? or Something got in the belt and caused the split?

Neither matters to your immediate problem though. Good Luck on getting it changed.

High horsepower and banging gears lowers belt life.

Just replaced mine abot two weeks ago. Had a rock hole in it, and bangging gears=Bike sitting on the side of the road with a belt hangin out the *** end.
Not a bad job took me about 3 hours. Pull the iner primary (replace all the seals, trust me in this one). remove the lower shock bolt, You do not have to remove the swing arm, just slide the axle out enuf to clear the the frame and swing arm, then turn the belt side ways and it fits in easy. You wil have to pull off the left side floor board and the right side exhaust too. Like other have said get a manual to help with the iner pri if you have not pulled one yet it helps with things like the clutch nut is left handed threads. Not a hard job at all! good luck

It also is a lot easier on a table or even a small lift.Especially if your up in years.
