Default 35,000 mile Main shaft bearing...

07 RK with 35k miles, and running amsoil. Have to replace main drive bearing(5th gear)... Just wondering if this was pre-mature?? Gonna be anymore surprises?

07 Road Glide with 29K. Inner Primary bearing failed. I was lucky to catch it early enough before it completely blew up. Got in there and found the inner race had a bad spot and several rollers were severely broken up. Been getting slight metal on the magnet since my bike was new. Recently found more metal than before. Knew something was going.

Started hearing a growl in neutral that went away in gear. All indications pointed there.

I know it's not the same bearing . . . but isn't interesting that these bearing are failing so early? Anyone else???

Just had my inner primary bearing replaced @ 17,000 mi. I don't beat on the bike at all. The bearing rides a sleeve that is pressed on the main shaft. The sleeve actually had cracked in half and of course started making some noise. I caught it early so no big problem. Dealer said the failure is not a normal occurrence but not unheard of. Whatever the hell that means. Was repaired under warranty. FWIW I use Amsoil 20-50 in the primary.

Gee I thought using Amsoil guaranteed immortality.

Guess those 6 speeds aren't all their "cracked up" to be.

I've got nearly 6,000 miles on the Limited so far, and the transmission is definitely a weak point. I had a fair amount of fuzz on the primary plug at 5,000. I just changed the fluid again due to a destroyed cable and awful engagement, and there was a bunch more fuzz on it. If it looks the same at 10,000 it's going in for warranty service.

My 07 Ultra had primary bearing and tyranny bearings went out twice once at 16k then 23k after tech switch to Red Line gear oil no problems. Now I have 50k + miles on it and still running great but I'm very hard on it and I just can't help it .

Default Main shaft

Mine went out at 32K seems the 07 have that issue. Plus there are tons of 07 were the starters are going bad at around the same time. Mine did about 500miles later. Traded it in for a 2010

I have put over 100K on each of 3 five speed transmissions without any problems. Must be bad bearings in the six speeds for '07.

Oh there is probably nothing wrong with the oil. I did call amsoil, and they sent me sample bottles for oil to analyze. If they find a problem with their oil, they told me they would pay for the repair. We'll see , I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one.
By the imformation so far, seems the bearing for my "cracked up" six speed has lasted better than average for that year. Just glad I caught it before something bad happened. For those of you thinking of buying a new one, get the extended warranty, Ride it hard and put it away wet.
