Default wheel coming apart

I was riding my EG sunday and I was getting a wobble, its been doing it for a little while but sunday it got really bad....picked it up on the jack today and I found that my back wheel was coming apart ( stock wire wheel ) has anyone had this to happen......

only 20,000 miles on the wheels..Im going to put cast wheels back on....

I would hate for this to happen far from home

Wow, where is it coming apart at? I have some that I took off of my bike and put on my dads rk custom. I'm totally interested in what's going on with your wheel. Let me know where it's coming apart so I can check my wheels. You may have said this, but front or back?

it was the back wheel, the holes where the spokes go through the outer rim wallered ( if thats a word) out and all the spokes got lose and some came out

That happens when the spokes aren't checked for tightness, a good spoke rim is as strong or stronger than a cast wheel. The holes didn't "waller" out & make the spokes loose, the spokes got loose & then "wallered" out the rim. Spokes should be checked every 5-10K or at least with every tire change.

spokes were checked....about 5000 miles before this happened...front wheel is fine.......agreed the the wheels are just as strong but only 20,000 miles.... and it wouldnt be as big a deal if the wife didnt ride with me 99% of the time

I have to agree with DTTJGlide ...Proper maintenance would most likely prevented this. Who checked them out 5K miles ago ? I'd be talking to them about it. You have to stay on top of spokes...Give em an inch and they'll take a mile.

BTW, front wheel is fine because it's not a stressed member of the drivetrain. The rotational force and torque put on the rear wheel is incredible. I see this all the time with people and their dirtbikes.

I like them too, but I swore to myself I would never recommend the wheels, manufacture, or the company I bought them through(who are sponsors on here) Terrible customer service and an inferior product before I sorted them out. If you want quality, buy the ride wrights fat spokes. Or if you're interested, I have an almost new set of RK custom wheels off my dads 05 for sale. Good luck to you.
