Default Surge Caused Me to Crash!

As I was moving in slow traffic two days ago, the car ahead of me braked and as I was about to brake the bike surged forward. I lost control of the bike and fell over to my right. The bike lay about 20 feet ahead of me, also on its right side. Fortunately, I have nothing broken, only cuts, scrapes and bruises. The bike was OK to ride home but will need plenty of body work.

The insurance company says it's my fault since no one hit me from behind. I've told the service manager at my dealership about this and asked them to look into the surging issue. I don't know whether they'll be able to duplicate it since this is the first time it's happened to me. Has anyone had an issue with surging on their FLHs? By the way, I have the 25 degree injectors, SERT, Stage 1 and the bike's been dyno'd for 2 hours.

Yes.

My 06 RK Custom surged like crazy. When coasting down in gear from a high rpm, especially in lower gears, when the RPM neared idle, the engine would surge pretty badly. It really felt like someone turned the throttle for me.

Its no where near as pronounced since I got the new injectors.

25degrees, PC3usb, SE stage 1 intake and SE slip ons.

Yes, my 06 street glide (completely stock with 8* injectors) at 2000 rpm when backing off the throttle the bike will surge as if someone opened the throttle just a bit. I have complained to 3 different dealers in my area about this and well I got the standard HD answer. ITS NORMAL.....................BG

Mine did it until I went to the 25*'s.

I almost dropped it a few times, but that was usually the stalling/sputtering.
One time it surged on a big hill in traffic, and I swear the front end came up and tried to dump me off.

When in city traffic I always ride with my hand covering the clutch. I think it has saved me from those surges before the injector change.

This truly sucks because it must be a problem with the bike, not your tune since so many have had the issue. Your insurance should still cover it under Comprehensive.

Remember when you are having it repaired that aftermarket stuff is often the same price or cheaper than OEM. You might get some customization to offset your deductable expense. you know, like $1000 of add-ons for the cost of your $500 deductable. My insurance co said they will pay the cost of original equipment, but I can use that money towards aftermarket instead if I want.

No disrespect or anything, but why didnt you pull the clutch in that situation? Are you saying that it freaked you out and kept you from braking? Just asking? I am not dissing your riding skills and do not want to be misinterpreted, just wondering?

did you change from 8 to the 25 on your deluxe? I'll tell you what my 06 deluxe has bad stalling, decel poping, but no cold start issues. Have talk to the tech and he says they can not get it to do it when they test ride. Did your dealer replace em or did youpat too do it?

Sorry to hear you dumped the bike from the surge, I guess call me lucky or my time is coming for the bike to surge as this has not yet happen to me.
