Surge Caused Me to Crash!

RE: Surge Caused Me to Crash!
yeah I dont think I have that problem with my SG. Well, in situations like that I always have the clutch in. I've rode all kinds of bikes in the past and they all do it, so years ago I just picked up that habit......
Sorry to hear about your bike, glad you're ok....... And, I wish you luck with the insurance company. Because I know you'll have NO sympathy from "any" Harley dealers

Guess im lucky, had two EFI glides but never had a surging one, sounds like someone messed with the programing(sert or whatever) to far down the scale, when talking to the dynojet tech about tuning the PCIII he warned never add fuel to the 0 throttle position under 2000 rpms or this might happen, I didnt and they never surged.

Thanks all for your sympathy and good wishes. As far as whether I could have prevented it, I consider myself an experienced rider but anyone's capable of errors. Since the traffic was moving at around 20-25 mph and I was no more than two car lengths behind the car in front, the surge happened before I had a chance to squeeze the clutch. I can't rule out rider error but it does seem weird. With regards to the MoCo, my asking them to check for surging is less about placing blame than making sure it never happens again.

Just talked to a very good friend - he rides a 98 road king - injected- he was experiencing similar problems last week - not quite a surge as described here - his problem is centered around the front cyl heat sensor - as soon as he confirms that, I will post here, may not be connected to the surge - just posting a possibility

First time for me here, been reading for a while, I have an 06 Elect Glide Classic surges also, after researching it and asking the dealer and several techs got the same answer form them all, don't like it but non the less. They say on a deceleration the injectors shut off, and at the 2000rpm mark they turn back on, giving it a short burst of fuel, and at times scaring the %rap out of you if not ready. No fix yet so they say, they just like to say thats normal. I just keep the hand on the clutch if I am in traffic just incase.
Thanks Everyone, this is a great forum and looking forward to psting more in the future.

Guys you can get rid of it. It will scare the crap out of you though. My bike did it at first and after having it dyno tuned it is now gone. I have the 8 degree injectors now but will be recieving the 25 degree ones here soon. That was one of the biggest complaints I had. I dont have a copy of the map or I would give it to you all. I know the feeling though it will defeintly get your attention. If you have the SERT there has to be a way to adjust through it.
