Memory Foam Project.

Hey Omaha I have spent a lot of time and effort working my seat over but I think I finally have it. Some tricks I learned along the way , as said use electric knife you can make the cuts much cleaner, make sure as you shape it it is matching on both cheeks( by that I mean take a flat yard stick and drag it from front to back to make sure the shape is the same all the way across) use sand paper by hand 80 or 60 grit to do the final shaping you can shape it with sand paper exactly the way you want, don't glue much until you are sure you are done because you tear up the foam trying to pull it back off, and when you go to put your cover back on get mamas hair blow dryer and warm the cover up real warm so it will stretch.

Well I wrapped up the seat in saran wrap and went for about a 60 mile ride after work. I learned that plastic wrap is a horrible seat cover. My *** was sweating right away and the seat was down right hot by the time I got back. Mama couldnt go so not a great road test yet.
Over all a very big improvment over the stock seat but it felt a little squishy after awhile maybe I should have gone with the denser green foam on both layers.
I think I am going to just put on the finishing foam then try to beat that cover into submision. And then ride it awhile before I try anything else.
Going to go order the Impact Gel from MMC right now.

Progress has been Slow. I did a test fit with the stock cover and other than the rear I needed about one more inch of foam before it would have come close to fitting. So I ordered 2 more sheets of the blue foam.
The third layer of foam I wrapped around the entire seat front, back and sides. This brought the rider sides out two inches from stock and the rear six.
I put on about 100 miles solo in this configuration and decided if three is good four will be great.
So I wrapped the fourth layer on in the same manner as the third. We now have four inches added to the width on the front and a woofing 8 full inches width to the rear.
We did almost 200 miles 2 up on it yesterday and let me tell you it felt GREAT. No monkey butt at all. The best part for me is when I move from the floor boards and up to the hi-ways bars the seat will re-adjust to my new position. I put the back rest in full recline kick the feet up and scoot my butt forward and the seat just reforms and fills in the gaps.
When I first sit down on the bike I am on my tip toes to reach the ground. It takes about 60 seconds for the seat to squish down to where I am flat footed again. It also takes a full 10 miles or so before the seat finally Seattle’s in.
I have the seat in the deep freezer right now and will do some final trimming and sanding on it tonight. I need to take some off of the rear to get the bags to open as well as not rub a hole in the cover. I have a big piece of vinyl I am going to cover it with. I have lost all hope of re-using the stock cover. I hope to get thru the rest of the season with the vinyl then this winter I will have it professionally done with leather.
And yea I know it’s big and ugly. But form FOLLOWS function in this garage. I could careless what it looks like. Some may point and laugh as I pass them by at the rest stop but my butt will be grinning.

No I have way to much foam for the old cover. I have a piece of vinyl I am going to try to get me thru this season. Then if all is well I will have leather put on it over the winter.
