I agree having a good local shop to use in a bind or for major items is a good idea. More to your question though, if all that's being done is a full fluid change, the tech is going to be looking at the same plug magnets as you would be. Just make sure there are no large shavings.

Save your money and buy the service manual. Do the service yourself. What makes you think that some tech will be looking at anything? They will dump the oil out and never even look at it. NOBODY cares more about your bike then YOU do. Take your time and get to know your bike.

I'd have a shop give a once over and the fluids changed. If you feel your local dealer is good that works, but there are probably trustworthy independents in your area too. I know it just my opinion, but that's what I'd do.

Thanks for all the replies.

I will get the manual then go ahead and change them myself.

Thanks,
Craig

I have a rule for used bikes. Change *all* fluids myself! That includes brakes & forks. Go over *everything*! If you aren't comfortable with doin' it yourself have a trusted shop do it, but do it! Call it the 10,000 mile service & you'll be good to whenever point you want to continue regular service from.
