Fuel Mileage
I'm curious. Most folks I know are getting 45~50 mpg on their touring bike 88's. I have a 2006 ultra with a stage 1 air filter and Screaming Eagle slip-ons. Other than that, the bike is stock and I always use premium gas. The stage 1 download has been installed. I get a consistant 40 mpg +/- one or two combined city and highway. My low fuel light always comes on, within a couple of miles, at 160. I then pump very close to 4 gallons. Why the difference? I'm not what you would call an "aggressive" rider so I'm baffled. Every other bike I've had beat the pack by several mpg.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Im with you .. Once I got like 42/44 but that was all 2 lane roads and a days riding . I do get close to 40 with a combines 2 lane and highway running and with an occasional flogging and hammering the gears

88 inch, stage 1, Big sucker, true duals, slip ons, and before that variations on the exhaust while I searched for "the sound." But I've been getting a consistant 48 while cross country (55 mph with cruise on), 38 at 75-80 on the big road, and about 40 around town. I drive pretty sanely. I got the same with my 02 Sporty and a little less on my '88 evo dresser. I found no change between bone stock and the stage 1 et. al. changeover at 7000 miles. I dont know why, you would think it would be less. It's like free horespower. My theory is that since the engine is now more powerful, it takes less of a throttle opening to produce the same power, and less throttle should equate to lower fuel flow. Then again, I could be full of it. Either way it beats the Chebby's 16 mpg any day.

Same setup as you for the most part on my 06 Ultra. I get anywhere from 38 to 42 depending on my riding style. Same with the gas light mne usually comes on at 148-152 and when I fill it's usually 4 gallons. It's good to know I have at least a gallon + some when that light comes on.
