Default What the? Broken RK Custom saddlebag latch

Has anyone here with a RK Custom had their saddlebag latch break? Mine broke where the cable attaches to the lid. It looks like the attach point is molded into the lid, so there looks like no obvious way to replace it. This really ticks me off because these bags are not cheap. I really want some hard bags, but they are even more expensive. At least they shouldn't break!!

My latches were diconnected when the locks were installed. The locks then become the latches. Intalling locks is definitely cheaper than replacing.

So you have the locks installed with no latches? How does that work?

Locks are mounted to the rear of the bags with a cable run up to the latch mechanism on the bag. Where you insert the barrel key to lock or unlock is also a button to push to open. The original button on the backside of the bag is no longer attached to anything.

Got it. Now that i think about it, I bet the snap ring popped off. I found it in the saddlebag and discarded it thinking it went to nothing. Grrrr...

After thinking about it more, I'm not sure this is going to help. Mine broke where the cable attaches to the latch on the lid, not where the button on the backside of the bag is located. So I don't think installing the locks will help, as the latch will still be unusable.

Mine is actually busted in one of my bags. I'm not very happy about it, because like the OP said the bags are expensive. It is a PIA to get into right now. Anyone else have this happen and have a good fix?

Thanks
Phil
