Do it yourself. There are very many folks who will help talk you thru it if you get stuck on something. The dealer is a rip-off. You will do a better job yourself and it will be very satisfying.

I can't imagine paying 2K to change my handlebars!!!

My bike is older (99) without the internal wiring, but I can't think that it would be that impossible to change yours. i think you will be happy if you do it your self and save the cash. Even if it takes all day.

I had Heritage classic bars on my RKC for a while (before adding fairing) and loved them. Wish they would fit with the fairing.

On my 2003 RKC I went with Harley Road King Crome High bars. Had internal wiring done by dealer, at the time remember it being just 3 or 4 hundred dollars for everything. Loved them, now have a 2010 SG wish they would go on it, would do it again in a minute.

I am 5' 11'' and also had the knife in the back feeling with the stock handlebars on my 09' Road King Classic. I initially replaced the stock bars with the Heritage Style Bars. I was immediately disappointed with these bars because they put your wrists in a very awkward angle. I have since replaced them with Wild One 8.5'' mini apes. The mini apes put your wrists in a very natural position and you still have great low speed control with them. I also installed a rider backrest and highway pegs. I am much more comfortable now. My dealer charged me $427 in labor to mount the bars and wire internally. It sounds like some of you are getting ripped off.

I had the same problem with my '07 RKC. I didn't get around to changing the handlbars before I sold it but my '09 Ultra Classic could use a bit more pull-back.

2>4?

Do you have a side shot of your 8.5's? I currently have the Heritage type bars and love them with the fairing on but they look strange to me when I strip the bike down. I spoke with Wild1 and they said no cable changes are needed for the 8.5s.

Default WO 8.5'' baby apes

Blue Duck, here are some more pictures for you. I also thought the Heritage Style Bars didn't look quite right with the bike stripped down. My dealer did install an 8'' wire extension for the throttle. Part # 2120-0251 @ $38.99. I really like the look of beach bars and other low handlebars on the RKC but I am not sure how comfortable they would be after a few miles.

Great, I think you will enjoy them very much. What kind of fairing is that? Do you have a picture from the riders side?
