Default Changing an 09 Ultra rear tire

I'm changing the rear tire today, what a pain in the a$$. Seem you can only get the Dunlop D407 from a harley dealer.

Anyone put on another tire on an 09 or 10 Ultra? What kind? Have any issues? Or know where to get a Dunlop D407 other than Harley?

Phat performance shows the new Dunlop American Elite on their website for $189.95, don't know for sure if they have them in stock yet or not.

What issues did you have? I'll soon be changing my 09 Ultra rear tire and am curious why you say it was a pain. I've changed rear tires on an 01 and an 06 Ultra without any problems.

The saddlebag guard rail is now in the way of removing the axle. I didn't have a T-40 socket and couldn't get the bolts out, had to go buy a T-40 socket. Had to remove the belt guard also.
You can't get the Dunlop D407 tire from anyone but Harley. The Dunlop American Elite (direct replacement with same load rating) is not available until august (as far as I can tell). Avon cobra or Metzler ME880 Marathon not available either.

I have not found any other compatible tire like the Avon Cobra or Metzler ME880 Marathon available anywhere.

Harley has a Two Year Exclusive on the 180/65B16 so no other manufacture will have that size until August. If you don't use that exact size on a Warranted Harley you risk voiding any Warranty claim related to the tire.
