Default OK! Deos anyone else have this problem?

I have a problem that is driving me bonkers. If I'm on any hill with more than a 2% incline my bike will not maintain speed in 5th. I have to down shift to 4th. It pisses me off! This weekend I take my wife to the Peach festival in Wilcox AZ, going thru Texas canyon @ 80mph I was down to 75 in less than 1/4 mile on just a 3% upgrade.

I ride hills every day and never have to downshift.

Well, there was this one time but it was a big long hill with a steep grade and i was full throttle and not gaining at 70

ON my 06 ultra, 2 months ago, when I bought it, it would not run smooth in any gear below 2800, after the latest download , it was down to 2200, now with High flow air filter kit it will will run at 1800.,but it will take fits and start loaping like a destroyer. The dealer is going to send the ECM back to Harley. for a re program. They have done it before with much sucess. the program looks stock for EPA purposes, but the numbers are different, from what i,ve been told. Hope this helps. Did you know that an 06 has a higher 5th gear than an 05?

First, you should never run a bike at less than 2200 rpm in any gear. 3% is a pretty steep grade riding 2 up. you will have to use a lot of throttle to maintain speed on that kind of grade.

I would have no problem maintaining speed on 6% grade, 2 up. Something isn't right, I'd have it looked at.

You didn't really say what modifications you've make to your bike (if any) .. like Stage 1 Air Breather Kit and exhaust set up, Power Commander, SERT or whatever. What model is it?? Ultra, Road King, Road Glide, etc. Just wondering!

You know, by going to true duels that you loose a lot of low end torque, and with that high gear trans that dont help. something to think about.

I pull the Grapevine in 5th at 70 mph riding two up. It is interstate 5 between Bakersfield and Los Angeles. It is a 6% grade with long sweeping curves.

I have a Stage I intake and SE II slashdowns, the map is standard HD download.

Sounds like something is not right.

Im with Grover on the same road, with the wife, it will cruise at 75 and keep pulling the more I give it. The true duals will have nothing to do with it, torque and HP loss is so minimal.
