Harley specs the 96"er at 92 foot pounds at the engine and the 103"er at 102 pounds of torque at the engine, about a 10% increase in torque. with the added cubes and the added compression 9.2 up to 9.6/9.7. There were plenty of people saying the 96" was no stronger than the 88 when it first came out although the torque numbers HD publishes showed a 15%+ increase, so it wouldn't be the first time you heard this, nobody wants to think there current engine can't hang and the newer motor is "significantly" stronger. put a stage one with pipes, AC and tuner or stage two with cams on top of that 103 and you get another good 10-15% bump. obviously they are not a HQ, Tman or GMR motor with headwork and bigger valves.

The 103 motor has been accessible for several years via the 103 big bore kit for a few(?) dollars more than being charged in 2011 and you weren't limited to any specific model.

It's also my understanding, and this one is for the real mechanics one of which I'm not, that the factory 103 isn't a "significant" upgrade in performance from the factory 96. Install the big bore kit on any 96, change the cams with possibly a little head work and you will get a bike that runs rings around a factory 103 without sacrificing reliability.

Real mechanics help me out on this one. Accurate? Not even close?

Getting an underperforming 103 from the factory is headline news?????

I'm just trying to understand all of this excitement. If Harley had made the 103 the standard touring motor without increasing the price, now that would be headlines!!!!

I'd believe the Harley web site over another. The Power Pac is listed as N/A on the Electraglides, and it comes standard on the Ultra Limited.

It is odd, they list the FLHRC as having the 103, but the FLHR is still a 96.

Would you believe the HOG Magazine? Check page 44 of the summer 2010 issue.

only and only guessing, HD will put 103s
in every thing in 2012 and the CVO will
have 113s. All we got to is wait for
another year to find out, but I dont care
if HD puts 120 ci in dynas Im not trading
my 07 103 for anything on two wheels

I got the same treatment when I ran across the 2009s in June before they came out. I told of the new exhaust routing and the 180 rear tire.

I will forever keep my mouth shut from now on to avoid all the crap from these dumb azzzzz.
