I just hit 11k on the rear and I might get 500-1000 more. I ride 2up most of the time. The front was replaced by the recall so I don't know how long the front will last
What's with the recall? I don't go to the dealer, so I know I miss out on them, but doesn't Harley send out letters?
BTW, I have 22k on the front and can probably get 25k easily. But now I'm worried about this recall! Going to have to have a rear in the next couple of k's
I have to believe tire life depends on, amount of weight carried and I know it varies. How you maintain air pressure, some like a soft ride and lower pressures. I tend to set my tires at max rated pressures. Type of road surface ridden on. How aggressive a rider you are. Another thing if the mfgrs could make a bike tire that gets higher miles. alot of tires would still need to be replaced due to age and cracking. most bikes don't get used as much as cars, and it's not unusual to see a 5 year old bike with 5k miles on it. Those tires will probably need replacement for dry rot before they're worn out.,,
On my 09 EGC I have 12,400 on the factory tires the rear still has 2/32 above the wear bar and the front much better than that. I expect to change the rear at my 15K service and the front should last another 5 to 8K past that. I use 40 psi rear and 36 front. Most of my riding is 1 up.
Because of the contact patch - a car tyre is say 250mm wide and all 250mm touches the road.
Bike tyre is 180 wide and only 60mm touches the road at any one time. That 60mm has to do the work of all 180mm, hence it only lasts 1/3 of the time...
But the average car has at least 4 times the weight of the bike, so the trade off isn't that dramatic.
I got 15k on my stock rear, and 21k out of my stock front. Both were still serviceable when I replaced them. I ride mostly 1 up (but I'm a big guy) and check the pressure weekly. I replaced them with stock tires again.
