Because of the leaning, and the different rubber compounds. The tire isn't just going back and forth, but the side to side action rubs it and wears it out.

The use of different compounds makes sense to me. Still, I can put a full set of Michelins on my car for what it costs to put two Dunlops on my bike. On the other hand, I don't nearly as much fun out of my car as I do my bike, so I guess the trade-off is worth it.

I had to replace the rear D407 tire on my 2009 Road Glide at 15,000 miles.
I replaced the front D407F at 8,000 miles under the Service Bulletin issued by Harley with the D408F Dunlop tire.
I am just waiting until August when all of the other Tire Manufacturers can sell the 180/65B16 tires. Then I will get a different 180 tire.

Bike tyre is 180 wide and only 60mm touches the road at any one time. That 60mm has to do the work of all 180mm, hence it only lasts 1/3 of the time...
