I got 8500 out of my 407 rear. Front is still good at 11k. When this rear wears out I will more than likely switch over to Avon's. They released tires to fit the 09 touring bikes and I really liked them on my other bikes that I have had.

I'm running 43 - 44 lbs in the rear and 40 - 42 up front.
The stock Dunlops served me well.....

Getting ready to replace my rear - it has 11,000 on it. Dealer told me that 7000 was average. So, just to cause a little ruckus - why is it that car tires, which are on vehicles weighing 4+ times as much, get 30,000 miles, why only 1/3 or less for motorcycle tires?

Because of the leaning, and the different rubber compounds. The tire isn't just going back and forth, but the side to side action rubs it and wears it out.

The use of different compounds makes sense to me. Still, I can put a full set of Michelins on my car for what it costs to put two Dunlops on my bike. On the other hand, I don't nearly as much fun out of my car as I do my bike, so I guess the trade-off is worth it.

I had to replace the rear D407 tire on my 2009 Road Glide at 15,000 miles.

I replaced the front D407F at 8,000 miles under the Service Bulletin issued by Harley with the D408F Dunlop tire.

I am just waiting until August when all of the other Tire Manufacturers can sell the 180/65B16 tires. Then I will get a different 180 tire.

Because of the contact patch - a car tyre is say 250mm wide and all 250mm touches the road.

Bike tyre is 180 wide and only 60mm touches the road at any one time. That 60mm has to do the work of all 180mm, hence it only lasts 1/3 of the time...
